Praia da Amoreira, on the West Coast of Portugal, is an unspoilt sandy beach hidden away down a windy road just 7km outside the historic town of Aljezur. The picture below is not of the beach but of the estuary which runs into the sea at Amoreira.
There are newly constructed wooden steps and a viewing platform with a seat where you can take advantage of the magnificent views up the estuary or down to the beach below. Both are near and yet so far as the only access is either a 12km road trip or across the estuary itself.
You can access the estuary from the beach from the far end of the beach (away from the café). Keep walking to the cliff and you will discover a magical place with breathtaking views.
This week’s theme for the Weekly Photo Challenge is Near and Far

It’s a beautiful shot, your eye is lead from the fore-ground to the back by following the river.
